Raising Awareness Starts At Home

Live Wright Society was built on the philosophy that people are motivated to give back to those who are close to their heart. Raising awareness for our causes, as well as showcasing the people behind those causes, has proven to be a successful way to incite empathy and encourage action.

This past November, our founder Milly moved from Dallas to Allentown, Pennsylvania. In efforts to begin spreading the Live Wright message in a new city, Milly held an intimate dinner gathering at the end of May, to bring together a community (in this case, the neighborhood) so that they could be aware of the people around them, like Gene, Milly's husband, who was diagnosed with late-onset Alzheimer's. As do most diseases, Alzheimer's not only affects the patient but can often be hardest on the patient's loved ones.

It takes a lot of love and care to create an atmosphere of acceptance and support. Which, in the specific case of Alzheimer's, are qualities that ring incredibly important. While it is easy to feel hopeless and fear the disease, or fear getting older - it is crucial to learn how to to LIVE.

It doesn't matter how many people you affect, as long as you do something. Start small - start at home!
"Our recent neighborhood gathering at Milly’s home was a wonderful way to get to know our friends better.  We enjoyed food and conversation, but most importantly, shared in raising OUR awareness of Alzheimer’s.  Information is the tool needed to help us understand the courage of individuals and families affected by this disease.  Thank you Milly and Jenny, for raising my AWARENESS." - Melanie

"It was a lovely evening, wonderful friendships, good food and interesting conversation.   I enjoyed the information shared about dementia/alzheime's and how people cope with aging." - Janey

Live Wright goes to China

On March 8, 2014, Live Wright's co-founders, Milly and Jenny, were invited to speak at the Beijing and Shanghai Launches of Female Achiever Union (FAU), a powerful new NGO in China that provides complimentary leadership training, educational resources and a variety of services to help better women's lives. As women are a crux in the Chinese family, their influence often spreads across a multitude of people, situations and decisions. So, to empower the woman is to empower the circle of people she touches.
"Women hold up half the sky" - Chairman Mao Zedong
March 8th also marks the beginning of a partnership between LWS and FAU, with the goal of working to provide opportunities and inspiration for women in China to pay it forward.

Stay tuned for more details. We will be posting Live Wright's opening presentation at the FAU Launch, as well as progress on LWS/FAU joint programs soon . . .

GREG BARNHILL is a singer/songwriter who has written for everyone from Etta James, Martina McBride, and Jessica Simpson to Chicago, Tim McGraw, Lee Ann Womack, Leona Lewis, Tony Bennett, etc. “Walkaway Joe,” recorded by Trisha Yearwood and Don Henley, earned him a Grammy nomination. “All the money in the world can't buy the feeling I get when I'm singing.  I go someplace else in myself when I'm performing. I'm still amazed at how music takes over… at the whole process, from inspiration to the finished product.  It's all a miracle to me.”

J MACK SLAUGHTER JR is a medical student at UT Southwestern, as well as founder of Music is Medicine, a non-profit that pays it forward by donating instruments and teaching time to teenagers spending time at children's hospitals. MIM facilitates productive escapism during treatment time that would otherwise be spent simply waiting to be released. “I create music and facilitate music education in hospitals because I have seen first-hand how powerful music can be during my own mother's chemotherapy sessions. It brings fullness to my heart to be a part of that experience for other patients.”
